Lecture 4.

Taylor Polynomials

Today looked at approximating function values with Taylor polynomials. We did several examples, ex, sin(x) and cos(x) all expanded about the value x=0.

Error Term

I spoke briefly about the error term when using a Taylor polynomial approximation. Following our text book we will often use a fairly crude quantity to give e general sense of the size of the error.

On Wednesday I will be looking at algorithms to determine zeros of a function.
