Dual Degree program (BSCE and BA in CISC)

If you are doing a BSCE (Applied Science) program, you can complete a BA in Computing and Information Science in just one more year! You are permitted to transfer up to 10 credits from your BSCE to the BA degree. This means that you only need 5 more credits. You need to complete the following courses (these are all one-term courses):

CISC-121*
CISC-124*
CISC-203*
CISC-204*
CISC-221*
CISC-235*
CISC-322* or CISC-324*
plus 1.5 credits in CISC numbered above 200.

To complete this program in one year requires that you start planning NOW!

  1. Apply for admission to the Dual Degree Program (see below for details).
  2. Start taking CISC courses during your BSCE program.

You should take CISC-121* in your second year, and preferably CISC-124* as well.

During your third and fourth year, you should take CISC-203*, CISC-204*, and CISC-235* at a minimum (plus CISC-124* if you didn't get it in second year).

In your fifth year, you can take the remaining CISC courses required for the degree, plus any electives needed to bring your total number of non-transfer credits to 5.

CISC-121* and CISC-124* are open to all students. However, CISC courses numbered above 200 will be restricted to students registered in CISC degree programs. Thus it is essential to register as a Dual Degree student in advance of attempting to register in any of these courses.

Application Deadlines (Dual Degree):

  • May 1st for Fall term entry
  • November 1st for Winter term entry
Applications forms can be picked up and submitted to Admission Services (Richardson Hall).

Note that some Applied Science programs cannot be combined with a B.A. in Computing because of too much overlap: there must be less than 50 percent overlap between the two programs.

The complete regulations for dual-degree programs and lists of currently allowed and disallowed combinations of programs may be found in the Arts and Science calendar.
