Want to do Programming?Queen's University is looking for a few good programmers to participate in the annual ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC). ACM ICPC is an activity of the ACM that provides university and college students with an opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their problem-solving and computing skills. Every year, thousands of teams compete worldwide in ACM regional programming contests held from September to December. Approximately sixty teams then advance to the Annual ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals held early in the following year. So you are a Queen's student who love to do programming and you are considering participating in the ACM ICPC, then this page is just for you. What is ACM?The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology. Why participate? An excellent question! Here are a few good reasons:
Qualification for participantsEach contestant must be a Queen's University student enrolled in a degree program with at least a half-time load. Co-op students or students serving internships are also eligible. Graduate students may participate as long as they have not yet completed the first two years of graduate school. Participants of the regional do not have to be members of ACM. However, participants of the finals must be members of the ACM. Please refer to the ACM ICPC page for details. Queen's official tryoutAn official tryout will be held in late September each year. About nine students will be selected: six to compete at the regional, and three as reserves.
