Dr. Ahmed E. Hassan, Industrial Research Chair

Dr. Ahmed E. Hassan, Assistant Professor with the School of Computing, was awarded a new Industrial Research Chair in Software Engineering of Ultra Large Scale Systems in a ceremony in the Biosciences Centre on September 30. The position is funded by a $5-million investment from Research in Motion (RIM) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Sharing the stage with Dr. Hassan was Queen's Principal Daniel Woolf, Queen's VP Research Kerry Rowe, BlackBerry VP (Enterprise Software) Pete Devenyi, and NSERC President Suzanne Fortier.

Dr. Hassan's team in the Software Analysis and Intelligence Lab (SAIL) will work with RIM, as well as industry and academic partners, to investigate software engineering techniques for extremely large data systems.
