Queen's School of Computing


Ben is a Systems Specialist in the Queen's School of Computing. In addition to supporting researchers in the School, his current areas of responsibility include: purchasing for the School; managing CASLab, the School's teaching facilities; managing web and online assets for the School; managing the School's Research and Teaching Virtual Machines and hosts.

Ben is Chair of both the On-Line Presence and Public Relations Committee and the Marketing Committee, and also sits on the Resources and Space Committee and the School Policy Wiki Committee. Along with the entire Systems team, Ben received the Queen's University Special Recognition for Staff Award in 2005. In 2013 he received the Queen's School of Computing Distinguished Service Award.

Outside of Queen's, Ben has been the President of the Kingston Jazz Society since 2010. In that time, he has written many successful grant applications, and helped to organize the Kingston Jazz Festival, Skeleton Park Arts Festival, and HomeGrown Live. He is proud to be a strong advocate for and participant in Kingston's vibrant arts community. In 2011, Ben co-founded a successful web development and programming company, GoSaBe Development and Design, with his wife, Dr. Sarah-Jane Whittaker.
