At Queen’s University, Dr. Sara Nabil is pioneering a unique approach to computing that combines design, materials, and technology to rethink how people interact with digital systems. Through her iStudio lab, she integrates textiles, electronics, and interior design to create new forms of interactive technology that go beyond traditional screens and devices.
Her work is not only technical but also structural in nature. The lab actively promotes greater inclusion in the sciences, with women constituting 77 percent of its members and over 83 percent of undergraduate researchers and supervisees. This intentional environment is helping to reshape participation in a field where women have historically been underrepresented.
Recognized on International Women’s Day, Dr. Nabil’s work embodies both innovation and impact advancing research while creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of women in technology.
