Robin will be receiving the award at the Third Annual Gala Fundraiser in support of Kingston Literacy & Skills, on Tuesday, February 24, at Chez Piggy (that’s tomorrow).

We are happy to announce that a team of Queen’s students – Jake Alsemgeest and Zaeem Anwar from Computing and Eddie Wang from Commerce, were awarded First Prize in the Blueprint Challenge phase for the World Citizenship category of the Microsoft Imagine Cup.

Teams from around the world participated, with runners up from Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America.

The winning team, Team Eye3, was coached by Pat Martin (Queen’s School of Computing) and Brent Gallupe (Queen’s School of Business).

This is an amazing result for our students! Congratulations to all, and well done!

School of Computing PhD student Eric Rapos was recently awarded the prestigious Agnes Benedickson Tricolour Award. Induction in the Tricolour Society is the highest privilege that can be conferred by Queen’s University on a student for service to the community. Congratulations Eric on this much deserved recognition.

David is in the news today commenting on the issue of technology firms being caught between the need for better encryption against hackers and politicians’ calls for surveillance measures, in the Globe and Mail.

Members of the Queen’s School of Computing have recently stood out in two game design competitions.

First, two groups from the School recently participated in the Ludum Dare game jam, where people from around the world compete over four days to design and implement a complete game.
Recent graduate Zi Ye created the game “Escape Character”, which won second place in the group competition, of 1,365 entries. Zi’s amusing and innovative game is now available.
Matthew Ishii, Mallory Ketcheson, Daniel Moran and Cheryl Savery created the game “Dog Pile” and received very positive comments from the reviewers.

Second, members of the School have been teaming up with students in the School of Business to compete in the Microsoft Imagine Cup. The first phase of this competition was the Pitch Video Challenge. The team consisting of Susan Hwang, Tianbin Jiang and Gabrielle Quilliam of the School of Computing and Alex De Rosa of the School of Business received an Honourable Mention in the Games Category, competing against teams from around the world.
