Queen’s Computing at the Ontario Universities Fair
Dear all,
The Ontario Universities Fair was held in Toronto Friday September 19 – Sunday September 21. Once again this year, Queen’s School of Computing students donated their time and energy to represent their School at the Fair and help us recruit the best and brightest of high school students. I thank them on your behalf for their loyalty and brilliance. We are so proud of them.
I also would like to thank Wendy Powley who, as she does every year, spent the weekend promoting the School at the event and convincing every young woman to whom she spoke that Computing is the discipline to study and that QSC is the place to do it.

School of Computing Team Produces “Best Paper” Award at MICCAI
I am happy to announce that Parvin Mousavi and her research team won a Best Paper Award at the MICCAI Workshop on Clinical Image-based Procedures: Translational Research in Medical Imaging. Special congratulations to Post-Doctoral Fellow Dr. Farhad Imani who was one of the lead authors on the paper.

David was interviewed by the Kingston Whig-Standard for an article entitled “Little Defence for Password Grab”. He also appeared on Global National to comment on the security breach at Home Depot.
School of Computing PhD Candidate Named Microsoft Student Partner
Congratulations to Antonio Gomes, Queen’s School of Computing Ph.D. Candidate in Dr. Roel Vertegaal’s Human Media Lab, on his selection as a Microsoft Student Partner (MSP).
As an MSP, Antonio will build apps and demos, demonstrate the newest technologies, host tech events at Queen’s, acquire the tools and training to lead technology discussions on campus, and provide insight and answers on Microsoft technologies.
Randy Ellis Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
The School’s own Dr. Ellis has been awarded recognition for lifetime achievement by the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery. Read all about it on Page 7 of the August 12 Issue of the Queen’s Gazette.
