Roel’s invention, the PaperTab, helped Plastic Logic of Cambridge, U.K., earn the title of Top Gadget Innovator of the Year by Business Weekly.

Nick Graham’s CP-Net Research Recognized with Further Funding from OBI
Congratulations to Queen’s School of Computing Professor Nick Graham and to CP-Net in their successful application to the Ontario Brain Institute for funding. Led by Dr. Darcy Fehlings of Holland Bloorview Hospital and the University of Toronto, CP-NET connects children with cerebral palsy and their families to a network of world-renowned researchers from across Ontario and across scientific disciplines to improve understanding and accelerate the development of new treatments for this disease. Over the next five years, Nick will contribute to the Technology Platform through his “Exergame Technology for Youth with CP” research.
We are very proud of Nick’s contribution to improving the lives of children with CP and wish him all the best.
Karolina Zurowska Wins ACM Student Research Competition at MODELS’13

Mohammad Zulkernine Wins Canada-Africa Research Exchange Grant
Congratulations to Queen’s School of Computing Professor, Mohammad Zulkernine, on his successful collaborative research application to the Canada-Africa Research Exchange Grants program. Dr. Zulkernine will be working with Dr. Ejigu of Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia to develop “Secure and Trustworthy Reservation and Medical Records System (STRMRS),” along with collaborating hospitals in both nations.
We look forward to welcoming Dr. Zulkernine’s Ethiopian collaborators to the School and wish him safe travels in this research exchange program.

Reception for New Graduate Students
A reception to welcome new graduate students to the School of Computing was held at the Grad Club on September 4. Thanks to Graduate Program Assistant Debby Robertson and PhD candidates Eric Rapos and Karolina Zurowska for organizing the event. Congratulations, too, to Eric for being this year’s Ian McLeod Award recipient! The award is presented annually to the graduate student who has made the greatest contribution to the intellectual and social spirit of the School of Computing.
