Hossam and Ahmad received a Best Paper Award at the Third International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies (ANT-2012), held in Niagara Falls, August 27-29, 2012, for their paper “Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Using Wireless Sensor Networks”. Well done!
Queen’s Students Digitize Dinosaur Bones
David Rappaport’s work with his students on compressing and enhancing 3-dimensional digital scans of dinosaur bones has received coverage on the Queen’s News Centre, the Queen’s Journal, CBC Radio Canada and on CKNW radio (Vancouver).

Doug Wightman to Attend Google Summer of Code
Queen’s School of Computing Ph.D. candidate Doug Wightman has been been selected to attend the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) Mentor Summit to be held in Mountain View, California, this October (all expenses paid by Google).
Doug was a mentor for a GSoC project this summer and his team helped deploy a system based on his research.

MSR Vision 2020 In the News
MSR Vision 2020, the Third Canadian Summer School in Software Repositories, organized by Dr. Ahmed Hassan (Director, SAIL Lab) of the Queen’s School of Computing, Dr. Bram Adams (Polytechnique) and Dr. Daniel German (Victoria),
was held on the Queen’s University Campus August 20-24, 2012. Like its two predecessors, this edition of MSR was a success, drawing over 100 participants from 13 countries.

Randy Ellis Receives International Collaboration Award
Randy Ellis has been awarded a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Invitation Fellowship to collaborate with researchers at Osaka University. During the next months, Randy will spend six weeks in Japan to work with Professor Sato and his team on a project entitled “Towards Canada-Japan Collaboration in Computer Assisted Surgery”.
