Anna Panchenko’s research team studies causes of cancer progression - to find which factors contribute to cancer mutation occurrence in DNA - and to discover molecular mechanisms determining how these mutations can affect proteins, interaction networks, and dynamic behavior of chromatin. This objective requires designing new computational methods that involve machine learning, molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations. The findings of these studies will offer insights into the basis of mutagenesis and DNA repair and their contribution to cancer etiology, the knowledge of which is a prerequisite for developing novel targeted therapeutic strategies.
